Business listings (local citations) for contractors and home service businesses

Your name, address and phone number, correct everywhere customers look

A business listing is any place online that shows your business name, address and phone number: Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing, Nextdoor and many more. In marketing they are called local citations. We build yours, fix the wrong ones and keep watch on them.

  • Listings built and monitored every month
  • Old phone numbers and addresses found and corrected
  • Every listing is in your name, and you hold the logins
  • Included in the $597 a month package

A 2024 TEST

What happened when 50 listings were added

A well-known local search firm built 50 new listings each for a dentist and a handyman.

How much do listings matter today? The honest answer.

Less than most companies selling them will tell you. Listings used to be one of the main ways to climb the map. The evidence today says they are a foundation, not a lever.

In a 2024 test, a well-known local search firm built 50 new listings each for a dentist and a handyman. Neither moved up in the map results, and six months later Google still had only 2 of the 50 in its index. Google's own guide to local ranking talks about reviews, links and complete, accurate information. It does not mention how many listings you have.

So we will not sell you listings as a way to rank. We do them because wrong details cost you real customers, and because a complete, consistent presence is the base that the things that do move rankings are built on.

The listings a home service business should have

A handful matter far more than the rest. We start with these.

ListingWhy it matters
Google Business ProfileThe listing behind your place on Google Maps. This is the one that matters most.
Apple MapsWhat iPhone users see in Maps and hear from Siri.
Bing PlacesBing search and maps, including many work computers.
YelpCustomers check it, and other map apps draw on it.
NextdoorWhere neighbours ask each other for a contractor.
Better Business BureauA free listing that many customers check before they hire.
Your trade directoriesThe directories customers in your trade actually use.
The data providersA few companies supply business details to navigation systems and other directories.
WHAT HAS TO MATCH

Small differences are fine. These are not.

We fix the ones on the right.

Does not matter

  • "Street" and "St"
  • "Suite" and "Ste"

Does hurt

  • An old phone number that no longer reaches you
  • An address you moved out of
  • A different business name, for example after a rebrand
  • Two or more listings for the same business on one site

Built, not rented

Some services keep your listings in sync for a yearly fee. That works while you pay. When you stop, the directories are free to go back to whatever older information they had.

The listings we build belong to you. Each one is created in your business's name, and you hold the login and password. Nothing is held in our account or kept in place by a subscription, so nothing switches off if you stop working with us.

Years of messy listings? That is a cleanup.

If your business has moved, changed its phone number or changed its name, the old details are still out there on dozens of sites. Fixing that is a bigger job than monthly upkeep, so we offer it as a one-time project.

Citation cleanup is $997, paid once, and runs for six weeks. We find the duplicates and the outdated listings, correct them, and make your name, address and phone number consistent.

Questions about business listings

Straight answers before you send anything.

It is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website, such as Yelp, Apple Maps or a trade directory. We call them business listings.
A little, and less than they used to. In a 2024 test, building 50 listings for two businesses did not change their map rankings. Listings are worth having because wrong details lose you customers, not because they push you up the map.
Far fewer than bulk packages suggest. Testing indicates Google keeps roughly 10 to 20 listings for a small business in its index. Being correct on the important sites matters more than the total.
No. Monthly listing work is part of our Local SEO package. The one-time citation cleanup is an add-on to that package.
You do. Each listing is created in your business's name and you hold the login and password for it.
They stay exactly where they are, because they are yours. You already have the logins.
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. It means those three details are the same everywhere your business is listed. Formatting differences such as "St" and "Street" do not matter. A wrong phone number or an old address does.
That is your choice. If customers visit a real location, we usually recommend showing it. If you travel to your customers, Google asks you to hide it on your Business Profile, and we set yours up that way. Either way, every listing uses the same details.
A one-time, six-week project to find duplicate and outdated listings and correct them. It is for businesses that have moved, changed phone numbers or rebranded.
Fewer than the bulk sellers suggest. Packages of 300 or 600 listings sound impressive, but the same test found that Google usually keeps only about 10 to 20 listings for a small business in its index. So we build the ones that matter first, make sure they are right, and add more over time. Being correct on twenty good sites is worth more than being scattered across six hundred.
It depends on your business, and it is your decision. If customers come to a real location, showing the address is usually the better choice, and a published test found that hiding it lowered one business's ranking. If you travel to customers and do not receive them at your address, Google asks you to hide it on your Business Profile and list the areas you serve. We follow that rule, because breaking it can get a profile suspended.
