Missed-call text-back for contractors and home service businesses

When you cannot answer, the caller still hears from you

You are on a ladder, under a sink or driving between jobs when the phone rings. Missed-call text-back sends the caller one text, so the conversation can carry on by text until you are free to call.

  • One text, sent as soon as a call goes unanswered
  • It says who you are and asks how you can help
  • No offers and no promotions in it
  • Part of the $597 a month package. You choose which number it works with.
Example

  • You own your accountsDomain, Google profile, ad account
  • A report every monthSee what changed
  • Since 2018A dedicated team's experience

How it works

Four steps, and you only do the last one.

  1. Step 1A customer callsThey found you on Google, your website or your truck, and they call your business number.
  2. Step 2You cannot pick upThe call rings out because you are on a job.
  3. Step 3They get a text from youIt says who you are, that you are sorry you missed them, and asks what they need.
  4. Step 4You pick up the conversationTheir reply reaches you. You answer by text or call them back when you can.

A text that sounds like you, not like a robot

The text is a reply to someone who just called you. It should read like one.

What we do not sendWhat we send
"Your call is important to us. A representative will contact you shortly.""Hi, this is Smith Paving. Sorry we missed your call. What can we help you with?"
A discount or a coupon to "win the job".No offers. The moment a text carries a promotion, stricter rules apply to it.
A link asking for a review.Review requests go out separately, after the job is done.
A string of follow-up texts over the next week. One text. What happens next is a conversation between you and your customer.

Which phone number does it use?

For the text to go out, the number your customers call has to be connected to our system. That is a real decision for a business owner, and it is yours to make.

Many owners want to keep their existing number exactly as it is, and that is fine. We can set up a separate business number for your website and ads, and use that one for the text-back. Or we can leave this part out, and you keep everything else in the package.

We talk it through on the call, and we do not connect anything you are not comfortable with.

What it will not do

It is a safety net, not a receptionist. These are its limits.

THE ONE SOLID STUDY

Speed, in one number

Harvard Business Review, 2011, on leads from websites. A phone call is not a web form, so treat it as a guide and not a promise.

Nearly 7xas likely to reach the decision maker when a new lead was contacted within an hour, compared with waiting even an hour longer

The rules on business texting, in plain words

Texting customers is regulated: by federal law, by FCC rules, by some states and by the phone carriers themselves. We set the missed-call text up conservatively.

  • It identifies your business by name
  • It is one reply to a call the person just made, not a campaign
  • It contains no offer or promotion. Some states, including Florida, Oklahoma and Washington, have stricter rules for sales texts.
  • It tells the person they can reply STOP, and STOP is honoured automatically
  • Your business number is registered with the carriers first. In the United States that registration is required before a business can send texts.

This is general information about how we set things up. It is not legal advice.

Questions about missed-call text-back

Straight answers before you send anything.

When a call to your business goes unanswered, the caller automatically gets a text saying who you are and asking how you can help.
It comes from the number the customer called, and that number has to be connected to our system. That can be a separate business number we set up for your website and ads, so your existing number stays untouched.
No. Keeping your number as it is is a common choice. In that case we use a separate number for the text-back, or we leave that automation out and the rest of the package stays the same.
It names your business, says sorry for missing the call and asks what they need. It carries no offers. You approve the wording before it goes live.
We do not. A text with an offer in it is treated as a sales message, and stricter rules apply to those.
No. A landline cannot receive texts, so you still need to call those people back.
Yes, every missed call gets the same text. Spam callers simply do not reply.
Yes. The text tells them they can reply STOP, and that is honoured automatically.
No. It is part of our Local SEO package, because it only helps once calls are coming in.
